Northern Education Trust The Oak Tree Academy is a GOOD school

Northern Education Trust The Oak Tree Academy, was the first school within the Trust to be inspected under the new Ofsted framework. Leaders and staff are delighted that Ofsted recognised “that the academy has improved a lot since it was last inspected” and is now a “GOOD” school.

Following the visits on 25 and 26 September 2019, inspectors said that “pupils make strong progress, especially in reading, writing and maths, the curriculum is well planned, and key stage 2 outcomes have improved. Leaders ensure there is a good climate for learning across the school, and staff say behaviour is transformed. Leaders and teachers provide a safe environment with clear rules and expectations, and most pupils behave well and are sensible.” Inspectors also praised lively teaching which ensured children became curious and captivated, and were pleased to see that the school provided a wide range of enrichment activities, which were very popular and enjoyed by the pupils who attended.

Comments from parents reinforced the judgements of the academy, with some parents effusive about how the teachers go ‘over and above’ and care about their children and families.

Elizabeth Pollitt, Principal, said: “We are absolutely delighted with the outcome that the whole school community has worked hard to achieve. The inspectors told us that the children around the academy were unfailingly polite in corridors, in lessons and in the playground.

We have worked relentlessly to build relationships with everyone to ensure children attend school regularly and attendance is now significantly above the national average and children rarely miss a day of school. Children tell us they love coming to school and don’t want to miss their education.

With our results now consistently above the national average in reading, writing and maths, we know that children are secondary-ready and leave The Oak Tree Academy equipped with the skills and attitudes to succeed. I am exceptionally proud to be principal of this academy and look forward to continuing the journey towards becoming outstanding with the support of Northern Education Trust.”

Jane Wilson, Deputy Chief Executive, said: “The Trust supports all academies to achieve excellent outcomes for the children in our care; we have been able to make rapid improvements across the whole academy which are now being maintained. Due to the commitment and hard work of all the pupils, parents, staff and governors we have now received external validation of the excellent work that has been on in the academy and across the trust.

The Oak Tree Academy is a member of the Northern Education Trust.
We constantly focus on standards as we understand outcomes are paramount. Our decision making is driven entirely by what is best for children. By doing this we enhance the life chances of the children and young people in our care.
